SeyBrew Classic golf tournament Jerry Jean-Baptiste displays class |25 November 2016

The annual SeyBrew Classic golf tournament, sponsored by local brewery house Seychelles Breweries, was held over two days in November 2016 at the Seychelles golf club and the winner was Jerry Jean-Baptiste.

A staggering number of players (50+) teed up on Saturday afternoon under an individual stroke play format with the aim of taking home the trophy and title of champion.

With a challenging course to contend with, the players were keen to record good first day scores to carry over into Sunday’s round. The likes of Richard D’Offay, Morgan Crowe, Jerry Jean-Baptiste and a few others set the early pace, all signing their Saturday cards for sub 70 net scores.

Sunday’s tee time commenced around 7.30am with the leaders teeing off just after 9am. A two-day golf tournament such as the SeyBrew Classic gives golfers a chance to fight themselves into contention during round two as they try their best to put pressure on the leaders. However, the current national champion and better than scratch golfer Jerry Jean-Baptiste, kept his cool and played super consistent golf to shoot an even par gross score of 136 over the two days to take yet another champion trophy!

The net prizes (calculated with handicaps) went to Antoine Figaro who played fantastically well to shoot a 6 under par net total of 130 followed by Morgan Crowe (136) and Richard D’Offay (139). The best lady title was won by Peggy Pragassen, while Nahim Agricole won the best junior on gross with Damio Ernesta winning the net junior prize.

Subsidiary prizes went to Joe Andrade (best Saturday), Peter Vandervalk (best Sunday), Jerry Jean-Baptiste (nearest to the pin) and Erwin Pragassen (longest drive).

Seychelles Breweries managing director Nick Cook handed out the prizes to all winners after he had thanked all the players and winners.

He reminded all present that the SeyBrew Classic is the oldest sponsored golf tournament in Seychelles before adding that the company will continue the partnership into the future.
