Farmers, agriculture students learn latest climate change adaptation methods in farming |16 December 2016

Farmers and agriculture students recently learned more about the latest developments regarding climate change and agriculture, how renewable energy technologies can help reduce energy costs for crops and livestock production, and sources of financing for green energy investments, such as SEEREP and the PV Rebate Scheme.

Some 30 farmers, backyard gardeners and students together took part in the education and information session organised by non-governmental organisation Sustainability for Seychelles (S4S) at the Seychelles Institute of Agriculture and Horticulture (SIAH) at Anse à la Mouche.

Participants recommended that the farming sector starts looking toward more innovative sustainable technologies suitable for the context of Seychelles.

Following a tour of the SIAH and its premises, delegates also recommended that the government invest more funds into modernising the agricultural training institute, bring in more advanced technology so it can attract more young people interested in getting into the farming business.

The workshop was supported by funding from the GEF/UNDP/GOS Resource Efficiency Project as well as the EU/GCCA.
