In keeping with a long-standing tradition when January 1 falls on a Sunday, President Danny Faure has used his prerogative to declare Tuesday January 3, 2017 a public holiday. 

Such a declaration is covered by Section 5 of the Public Holiday Act, and will be published in the Official Gazette.
