Mahé Shipping rewards six employees • Michel Chang Peng Tive clocks 40 years of service |18 April 2017

Six staff members of Mahé Shipping Company Limited were rewarded for their hard work and loyalty during a short ceremony held last week.

After 49 years of existence, Mahé Shipping, which is part of the Corvina Investment Group and one of the leading shipping agents in the Western Indian Ocean, honoured six employees from various sections of the company.

The longest serving employee, Michel Chang Peng Tive who has clocked 40 years with the company, works in the clearing and forwarding section.

Four employees who have clocked five years of service are Lysa Tirant, Eva Marie, Jane Fred and Wilfred Vidot while the cargo manager, Jude Marimba, has clocked 10 years.

The company’s chief executive, Mark Jeyasingh, said employees have been the reason for the company’s success and now they are in a position to take it to the next level.

“We have had to deal with a dramatic change in the industry we work which is travel logistics with the arrival of the airport and changing of ships to air as well. Everything has put a challenge on our people and process just to provide our services to our customers and our employees have been able to cope with it through constant process of learning and practicing,” he said.

He said Mr Chang Peng Tive is an example to the youth of today of what it means to have the Seychellois work ethic and responsibility and at the same time the savoir vivre.

Mr Chang Peng Tive said he started off as a messenger then was promoted to shipping, then to the boarding section and then finally to clearing and forwarding.

“My job is very satisfying and I love what I do. Even though I face some challenges at times I am able to get past them and to me pleasing the clients is the most important element of the job,” he said.

Mr Chang Peng Tive said that only death will part him from the job and he encourages others to do as he has and be able to get past the petty problems at work and deliver on the job you have been assigned to.

Mr Marimba, who progressed rather quickly in the company, was employed as a clerk, then became a supervisor, followed by operations manager, agency manager and for the past two years now he has been the cargo manager.

He said his love for the job is what makes him strive to do better.

“The youth should persevere in their job and don’t let the low moments keep them from progressing further. They have to remain focused and motivated to reach their goal,” he said.
