CWS launches first ever mobile TV service in Seychelles |28 July 2017
Cable & Wireless (CWS) officially launched its mobile TV service yesterday, providing viewers with live access to fifteen channels.
The service can be accessed through the Cable & Wireless Mobile TV app, downloadable for free on Google Play Store for Android devices and Apple App Store for Apple devices.
Once the app is installed and opened, the user will then be prompted to login into it using their ‘MyCare’ account username and password. Those without a ‘MyCare’ account can follow the simple process of registering for such an account.
The last step involves purchasing of any of the three different Mobile TV boosters available, using either the MyCare and eShop online platforms or through physical transactions at any eTopUp retail agents by simply paying the exact Mobile TV booster amount.
For the time being the mobile streaming service has only three mobile TV boosters available for purchase:
News & Fun
- Provides 5 hours (300 minutes) of viewing available for 30 days.
- 6 channels available: SBC, TeleSesel, CNN, Sky News, E! Entertainment and Trace Tropical
- Price: 95 rupees
Cable Kids
- Provides 5 hours of viewing available for 30 days
- 5 channels available: Toonami, JimJam, Boing, Nickelodeon, Boomerang
- Price: 85 rupees
Sports
- Provides 5 hours of viewing available for 30 days
- 4 channels available: CANAL+ Sport, CANAL+ Sport 2, CANAL+ Sport 3 and Canal+
- Price: 195 rupees

Users of the mobile streaming service are advised not to worry about data or Wi-Fi charges because the services uses time-based rating as shown above rather than megabytes. If one was to stream HD video for about one hour on normally without using the mobile TV app they would have had consumed 800MB of data which costs around R1000.
While streaming videos viewers will be able to rewind and watch programmes they have missed, check the TV guide and plan their viewing similarly to their IPTV services and also view sinémaX video trailers.
Charles Hammond, the chief executive of Cable & Wireless, said that within the next few days the company will be increasing their customers’ broadband data allowance to up to 175% of their current allowance. This is to ensure that their customers have the best experience possible while using their services.
In the same vein Cable & Wireless’s 4G/LTE advanced network is expected to cover the whole of Seychelles by September of this year. 4G/LTE (Long Term Evolution) is the next stage in mobile network development and provides users with much faster data speeds than 3G.
He also mentioned that the company has observed the trend whereby users tend to gravitate towards services that provide mobility, therefore the mobile app will offer those people access to their favourite TV shows or sports event while they are on the move.
“We set out with the company mission, a few years ago, to provide world class communications services and solutions wherever and whenever people work, play and have fun,” Mr Hammond stated.
The project manager of the eight-month long project, Ronnie Simeon, explained the hard work that went into this new venture: “A lot of dedicated people worked really hard for this project to become a reality. For instance our technical departments had to make sure the service worked properly on our LTE system, it had to be able to switch back and forth seamlessly. Our billing department also had to verify if their system were billing the right packages and so forth.”
As of now the mobile TV service will be available to any smartphone or tablet users as long as they are Cable & Wireless SIM-card subscribers.
Moreover as part of the launch Cable & Wireless is offering its customer base an extra 5 hour of viewing on any TV bundle, a total of 10 hours or 600 minutes, for the whole month of August.
