Special mass for the departed today |15 November 2017

A special mass is being offered today for all the deceased.

Today’s mass will start at 12.15pm at the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception.

This is also the last mass offered for the repose of the soul of the faithful departed this year.

Meanwhile, on Sunday November 19 at 9am at the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception, there will be a special mass in memory of Alex Confait who diedalong with his six other crew members in the Flydubai aircraft that crashed as it tried to land in bad weather in the southern Russian city of Rostov-on-Don in the early morning of Saturday March 19, 2016, killing all 62 people on board.

The offering of mass and other prayers or sacrifices for the intentions of the faithful departed are said to be good and holy acts. And this practice is not new. The Catechism asserts, "From the beginning the Church has honoured the memory of the dead and offered prayers in suffrage for them, above all the Eucharistic Sacrifice, so that, thus purified, they may attain the beatific vision of God" (CCC 1032).
