Football St Louis clash with Anse Reunion in SFF Cup final today |02 December 2017
League champions St Louis clash with Anse Reunion today in the Seychelles Football Federation (SFF) Cup final as they aim to complete a league and cup double for the season.
It has been a glory season for the players of coach Nigel Freminot as their fans celebrated for this whole week the much-sought after league title after a long wait but now they are hungry for more success and their coach wants to finish the job in style in this final where they are regarded as favourites.
“Our aim today is to win this match to complete the double and we are quite confident of achieving this feat as the players are all fit and geared for this match after their confidence were boosted with our league triumph,” explained St Louis coach Freminot.
Coach Freminot though adds that his team will have to respect their opponent as in football anything is possible as they experienced in the Airtel Cup final three months ago when they surprisingly lost 1-2 to Northern Dynamo.
“We have lost two cup finals and we don’t want to experience this feeling again but we are also conscious that Anse Reunion can be a difficult team to crack open and they have a young and ambitious coach. So we have to play to the best of our ability and I’m confident especially the way we have been scoring goals freely that we can surpass this opponent as it will also be an honour for this group of players to make history by winning the double for this club,” coach Freminot told Sports NATION as he encouraged his supporters to come down to give the team an extra push but also pleaded to them to respect the officials.
For his part, Anse Reunion coach Ted Esther does not mind that his team are being regarded as the underdogs in this final, but he thinks his team have the potential of upsetting the odds and taking the cup to La Digue.
“We know that we are being looked at as underdogs but on the field both teams have the same chance and we are determined to prove our doubters wrong as we want to end our season on a high note,” revealed the La Digue side’s coach.
Coach Esther though made it clear that his team need to rise to the occasion after some average performances in their last two league matches.
“After losing the last two matches, I honestly had my doubts on this team if they would be able to get back on track for this final, but after we sat down and discussed things, I have seen a different attitude and our preparation has gone well this week and therefore if we stick to our game plan where we hope our attack to be more effective, we have as good a chance as our opponents of lifting the cup,” claimed the Anse Reunion trainer who is hopeful his management will be able to bring down a boat load of supporters to help cheer the team to the cup and create a fantastic ambiance for this season’s closing match.
Can Anse Reunion dent St Louis’ double dreams this afternoon? This is a match which should not be missed and Sports NATION would also like to seize this occasion to wish both teams the best of luck.
