Golf: Barclays Mug February - Golf veteran Edwin Palmer shows the juniors how it’s done |01 March 2018
On an overcast day with intermittent showers, it was not enough to dampen the spirited hardcore golfers, to challenge for the second Barclays Mug golf competition for 2018.
Young junior golfer Adrian Andrade had carded a level par 68 nett, taking an early clubhouse lead. He was trying to emulate his fellow junior friend Nahim Agricole, who was the winner of the January Barclays Mug.
However, veteran golfer Edwin Palmer had other ideas on the day, finishing in the second last group he shot a 67 nett to take the outright lead from young Adrian Andrade, who finished in second place.
Eighty-two-year-old Palmer has enjoyed playing golf for many years, he showed that sport has no age restriction by keeping a healthy and fit lifestyle which ensures one can compete for many years and still win golf competitions.
Finishing in third place with a solid round was nearly scratch handicapper Richard D’Offay with a 70 nett score.
On the day, the two Seychelles Golf Club local professionals were showing their support for the monthly event, Yves Emond carded a solid -2 (66 gross) and William Weidner shot a new course record -6 (62 gross) on the new layout of the Seychelles Golf Club (SGC).
Congratulations to both pros.
Presenting the prizes was Amanda Bernstein from Barclays Bank. The SGC would like to congratulate all the winners and thank Barclays for its continuous support and sponsorship throughout the 2018 season.
