Therese Soukup, Damien Payet 800m gold medallists

Therese Soukup and Damien Payet have won a gold medal each for Seychelles at the 2018 Cana Zone IV swimming championship taking place in Lilongwe, Malawi.

On day one of the championship yesterday, Soukup won the female under-14 800m freestyle race in a time of 9 minutes 43.46 seconds (9:43.46).

In second and third places were South African Liz-Marie Davidson (9:54.12) and Mauritian Ines Gebert (10:13.36).

Also yesterday, Damien Payet touched the wall in 9:11.58 to win the male under-14 800m freestyle event ahead of Mauritian Victor Ah Yong (9:35.30) and Kenyan Khagram Kunaal (9:50.17).

Altogether 12 swimmers took part in both races.

The championship, which started yesterday, will end on Saturday March 24, 2018.
