Charita case Five found guilty |07 April 2018
Five fishermen have been found guilty of conspiracy to import drugs, trafficking and aiding and abetting on board the fishing boat Charita whose owner was acquitted of involvement while the skipper and another defendant walked free after offering prosecution evidence.
Justice Fiona Robinson found the men guilty and she delivered the news during a hearing yesterday in the Supreme Court of Seychelles.
The skipper and seven crew members were arrested on December 7, 2012 on board Charita, and their fishing vessel was seized by the then National Drugs Enforcement Agency (NDEA) after 80kg of herbal cannabis, an AK-47 assault rifle, ammunitions, around 4kg of cannabis resin and 154kg of turtle meat were found on the vessel.
The Seychellois fishing vessel Charita was arrested off Providence island on its return to Mahé from Madagascar.
