Athletics - Ex-track & field stars return for memorial event |11 May 2018

Athletics fans will have the chance to see the track and field stars of the 70s, 80s and 90s in action during a memorial event scheduled to take place next Saturday (May 19) at Stad Popiler.

In memory of three deceased athletes, namely Danny Beauchamp, Alex Confait and Arthur Agathine, the memorial event will consist of 100m, 200m, 400m, 1,500m, 3,000m (men and women), 110m hurdles (men), 4x100m, long jump, high jump, shot put and javelin.

According Vincent Confait, a member of the organising committee and also the father of the late Alex Confait, the event is an opportunity to keep the former athletes active and also a chance for them to meet up and have fun.

He explained that they are planning to make the event an annual one, in memory of other deceased athletes.

Among those taking part in the event are ex-sprinters Danny Benoit, François Vinda, Denis Rose, Mervin Loizeau, Sharon Henrie, hurdler Giovanni Fanny, high jumper Jude Sidonie, long distance runner Vincent Confait among others.
