Sri Lankan star Kulasekara invited for six-a-side softball championship |18 May 2018

A six-a-side ‘soft ball’ cricket championship will take place on Sunday June 17 and it will be organised by the Lakstars cricket club.

According to the organisers, the tournament will start at 10am and finish at 2am the following day (June 18) with the championship and plate finals taking place under the floodlights at the Mont Fleuri playing field.

Some 40 teams are expected to take part in the tournament which will be played in championship and plate categories.

The guest of honour for the tournament is professional Sri Lankan cricketer Kulasekara Mudiyanselage Dinesh Nuwan Kulasekara who was his country’s premier opening bowler from 2003, bringing many victories with his swing bowling.

The organisers have said Kulasekara will be present here during the whole of the tournament.

A useful and effective medium pace bowler, Kulasekara could swing the ball in first few overs, and also could bat in late overs. He was regarded as one of the best swing bowlers in the world and was once ranked number one in the ODI bowlers rankings as well.

He retired from test cricket in June 2016, due to major concern to play limited over cricket.
