Penlac donates paint to La Retraite home for the elderly |12 June 2018
Local paint manufacturer Penlac has donated 215 litres of assorted paints to the La Retraite home for the elderly which was much needed for both the interior and exterior of the home’s ongoing renovation project.
The chairman and managing director of Penlac, Abdul Gafoor Yakub, handed over the donation of paint to May Rose Mathiot, the administrator of the La Retraite home for the elderly in a small ceremony held at the Penlac headquarters at Le Rocher.
Also present was 78- year-old Lorna Henry, a resident of the home.
La Retraite home accommodates the largest number of residents among all the elderly homes in Seychelles.
The paint contains a low VOC agent, which does not emit a smell after applying it on a surface, and is seen as a great benefit after painting the interior.
This is not the first act of kindness done by Penlac as it recently donated paint to the Seychelles Karting Association, the Pointe Larue and La Retraite schools.
Mr Gafoor explained that the donation of paint will make the surrounding environment more cheerful for the residents.
“It’s good that we are able to help in any way we could so we decided that we would refurbish the home through our Corporate Social Responsibility. The product that we have given you will benefit you directly. We want to give back to society, because the home never had the budget to maintain the premises, so as a company involved in paint, we decided, why not?” said Mr Yakub.
Ms Mathiot explained that the paint will be very beneficial to the home and will create a better atmosphere for the elderly.
“We work hard to maintain the home. I’ve worked there for one year and there are many spots that have never been painted around the home such as the doors and the ceilings. So after contacting Penlac and receiving a positive answer, I’m very grateful that you were able to help, and I assure you that your donation will be put to good use,” said Ms Mathiot.
