Statistics show 2.6% unemployment rate |20 October 2010

This detail was given by Education, Employment and Human Resources Minister Macsuzy Mondon during Question Time in the National Assembly yesterday.

This was after elected member for Pointe Larue Jennifer Vel asked about the number of Seychellois who are unemployed.

Mrs Mondon said 660 of them are male and 727 female; 67% fall into the age group 15-30 and the total figure represents an unemployment rate of 2.6%.

Other issues addressed during Question Time included allowances for post-secondary students from Praslin and La Digue, raised by opposition leader Wavel Ramkalawan.

Mrs Mondon said the allowance will be reviewed very soon to cater for the expenses of these students.

She also answered questions about students dropping out of schools and the bond for ex-National Institute of Education students who are now following their teaching course with the University of Seychelles.
