The awards were for Best Attraction and Best Managed Commercial Booth, and Seychelles was the only country represented in the joint African pavilion to win two prizes.

The African pavilion, in which each African country had a stand and which received the award of Best Pavilion, was the most popular at the Expo and attracted over 22 million visitors during the six months the fair was open. The African Union took part, as well as 42 African countries.

“This award is indicative of the ambition of our country and is a strong sign of the impact we made at the Expo,” said Minister for Foreign Affairs Jean-Paul Adam.

“The success of the stand also reflects the strength of our relations with China.”

The Seychelles pavilion was one of the most popular and had daily queues stretching for over 100 metres.

In a press release earlier this year Philippe Le Gall, Seychelles’ resident ambassador to China, said: “The Seychelles pavilion, being located centrally, has been attracting attention due to the beauty of the stand, which Michael Adams helped to design.”

The Shanghai World Expo was held under the theme: Better City, Better Life and closed on November 3 after attracting over 73 million people.

The next World Expo is scheduled to take place in the Italian city of Milan in 2015.
