The Seychelles Taxi Association has made a generous donation of face masks, hand sanitisers and hand wash to the Pointe Larue primary school.

The handover of the donation took place yesterday in the presence of the chairperson of the Seychelles Taxi Association, Frank Kilindo; the director for health, safety and risk management within the Ministry for Education, Regina Prosper; the director general for Early Childhood and Primary Education Cyril Pillay and personnel of the school.

This donation is part of the 35,000 face masks, 18 gallons of 5 litres of hand sanitisers and 24 gallons of 5 litres of hand wash already handed over to the Ministry of Education to be distributed in primary and secondary schools on Mahé.

“Our Seychelles Taxi Association realised that most of the adults are being vaccinated whereas the children have not yet received this opportunity. It is now the time for us to come and give a helping hand in this battle against Covid-19. This donation will not only help the school but also our business when the number of positive cases go down,” explained Mr Kilindo.

The Seychelles Taxi Association is composed of almost 300 members and since the opening of our frontiers, business has picked up for the taxi operators. “Business has picked up and we are able to feed our families and pay our debts. This donation to the community is to show our contentment. The association will soon be rebranded and become more people friendly. We have a social club and once we get more finances we will entertain other community projects,” noted Mr Kilindo.

Mirena Medor, head teacher of Pointe Larue primary school, accepted the donation with gratitude to both the Seychelles Taxi Association and the Ministry of Education.

“So far we have been operating within the health guidelines and we have not closed our school yet. We are making sure that all protocols are being observed properly in order to prevent contamination. We put emphasis a lot on washing hands before and after each meal and every morning the children are screened at the entrance. If there is any child with fever, the parents are called in.”

Pointe Larue primary has 434 students with 52 staff.

Besides Pointe Larue primary, the other schools that have benefitted from this lot so far are Grand Anse Praslin primary, Grand Anse Praslin secondary, Baie Ste Anne primary and Pointe Larue secondary.
