Covid-19 update   620 active cases as of August 25   |28 August 2021

As of August 25, there are 620 active Covid-19 cases in the country as the level worryingly remains at above the pre-surge level.

A press release from the Ministry of Health notes that the active cases are distributed on the three main islands: 587 on Mahé, 16 on Praslin and 17 on La Digue.

The highest number of active infections is in the age group 30 to 44 years while the lowest rate of infection is among the elderly population.

Nonetheless the number of children and young adults contracting the virus and currently considered as active cases remains significantly high.

The press release also observes that Covid-19 treatment facilities in the country are about 50% full.

In the past week, the moving average has increased to around 60.

The country is close to reaching 20,000 cases of Covid-19 as it currently counts a cumulative total of 19,777 cases, of which 620 are active cases, 19,053 recovered cases and there have been 104 Covid-19 related deaths.
