Seychelles loses third female centenarian inside a week

Mrs Charles on the day she celebrated her 101st birthday

A third Seychellois female centenarian has passed away inside a week.

Simone Charles took her last breath yesterday morning at the Seychelles Hospital. She was 101 years old.

Born on December 12, 1920, Mrs Charles spent most of her life residing at English River where she was known by many people as Mrs Michel or Granny.

She had seven sons, two daughters, 16 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

One of her sons is former President James Michel.

“I lived that long by the grace of God,” Mrs Charles told the media on the day she celebrated her 101st birthday.

“She passed away peacefully. She lived well. May her soul rest in peace,” former President James Michel told Seychelles NATION yesterday.

Mrs Charles is the third centenarian to die inside a week after Fulgencia Malcouzane née Maria, passed away on Wednesday January 26, 2022 at the age of 103 at her home in Bel Air and Angele Labiche took her last breath on Saturday January 29, 2022. She had celebrated her 100th birthday 11 days earlier.
