The newly accredited Finnish ambassador to Seychelles meets with Speaker of the National Assembly

Speaker Mancienne and Ambassador Tapiola exchanging gifts

The newly accredited ambassador of Finland to Seychelles, Pirkka Tapiola, paid a courtesy call on the Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Roger Mancienne, yesterday morning.

Speaker Mancienne was accompanied by the chairperson of the International Affairs Committee, Hon. Waven William, and the deputy Clerk to the National Assembly, Alexandria Faure.

The Speaker congratulated AmbassadorTapiola on his accreditation and welcomed him to the National Assembly.

The ambassador outlined the excellent bilateral relations shared between Seychelles and Finland, as well as the mutual values and concerns on international platforms. Ambassador Tapiola expressed his government’s appreciation for the support extended to the Finnish candidature to the UN Human Rights Council for the period 2022-2024 at elections held in October 2021.

During the meeting, both Ambassador Tapiola and the Speaker discussed areas of common interests including exploring new avenues for further collaboration in a variety of sectors such as the protection of the environment and climate change.

The ambassador also commended the effort made by Seychelles to maintain its tourism industry amid the Covid-19 pandemic and the Ukraine-Russia conflict.

Hon. William highlighted the vulnerability of Seychelles vis a vis the international communities during the pandemic and the effects of the Ukraine-Russia conflict.

The Speaker thanked Ambassador Tapiola for his visit and looks forward to more exchanges and collaboration between the two countries.
