Seychelles celebrates 46th Independence Day anniversary

Former President James Michel

‘Our resilience has stood the test of time’

“Our attainment of nationhood 46 years ago was a unique opportunity to leave the colonial era behind and forge ahead to lay the foundations for a free, successful and proud nation. One which guarantees social justice, equality and liberty for every Seychellois. These were noble ideals which we were determined to achieve and succeed as a sovereign nation.

“Our post-independence achievements through people-centred development have earned us the respect and admiration of the international community.

“As we celebrate this auspicious anniversary we remember the many Seychellois men and women who not only fought for our political and economic independence but also contributed meaningfully to maintaining it.

“46 years on, we still have a lot to accomplish in this dynamic and challenging world order, especially amid great uncertainties and challenges of global proportions.

“But never since our independence has it been so important for us to come together as a nation with unity of purpose to protect our people and its accomplishments. We have to ensure continued sustainable development for the betterment of our motherland and its people. Our resilience has stood the test of time and we have always come out victorious in the face of difficulties. I am convinced that together we can do it for the love of Seychelles, for the love of our children and for the sake of our future generations.

“May God continue to bless our beautiful country - And God bless you all! Happy 46th Independence Day!”

James A Michel
