Seychelles Centennial Women Lions Club inducts new members

New office bearers of the Seychelles Centennial Women Lions Club (SCWLC) for the year 2022-2023 have been officially inducted.

The new president of the SCWLC is Annithaa Raj Kannan and the office bearers are Divya Subramanian (secretary), Kanta Dinesh Hirane (treasurer), Doris Belle 1st VP, Brigitte Labonte 2nd VP and Janaki Rani Pillay as the club membership chairperson.

The outgoing chairperson, Manjari Gohel, is the Lions Club International Foundation Coordinator, Elizabeth Neba the Club Service chairperson, Fatime Kante the Club marketing communication chairperson and Dhana Sasikumar the Club director.

The event started off with the customary Lions roar followed by a Lions toast to the health of the President of the Republic of Seychelles, Wavel Ramkalawan, and to the international Lions clubs.

New members were also sworn in during the night in the presence of Lions and members of sister clubs including the Lions Club of Seychelles, the Melvyn Jones Foundation and the Rising Lions.

The outgoing president, Manjari Gohel, thanked all the sponsors, communities and friends who helped the SCWLC realise its community projects during the year and also mentioned how the SCWLC helped the community with the various projects.

 

Projects done during July 2021-August 2022

The SCWLC donated a green house to Foyer de la Solitude; hosted a fund-raising activity with a virtual holiday camp.

This was then followed by a youth seminar to raise awareness among the youth about the struggles and opportunities in the working world.

Another fund-raising activity was organised for the pediatric cancer patients and they also got a data package for a child in pediatric ward.

In August, they also organised a virtual talk on diabetes.

In September, the SCWLC donated a pair of eyeglasses to a girl who had poor vision in order to help her in her daily activities and studies.

A donation was made towards the National Institute of Health and Social Studies followed by a Peace Poster Activity for children from 9 to 12 years old.

There were donation of food, glucometers and eye-glasses to the elderly, talks on various health problems, donation to single mothers during the year.

In 2021, there was also the registration of the Seychelles Mighty Leo Club.

 

New Zone chairperson

During the night, a new Zone chairperson for Region 13, Zone G of District 411 A for lionistic year 2022- 23 was appointed in the person of Lion D.V. Sharma.

He emphasised on the fact that members of the Lions Club should make use of the Lions Learning Centre, with many useful tools. 

“There are many Lions leadership institutions, webinars in the wider lions’ network and encourage lions to engage in these. We encourage Lions of Seychelles to reach out to the DG Team for any trainings or workshops required. Lions are encouraged to lead by example and build their leadership skills within their clubs. Each member/ club is encouraged to create image building by curating your story of your activities.”

Mr Sharma encouraged the members to create sustainable activities and to ‘think outside the box’ and work on activities that impact the community.

The new Regional chairperson Karpagam Senthil Kumar also addressed the crowd and took the opportunity to note that “we the Lions can do much more for Lionism as well as for our community. All these will be possible and is possible if we work together united. Our theme for this year is ‘Become Champions of Service’. Each and every member is a champion. This is to make us realise that we are not only members but born champions...”

The SCWLC also thanked the outgoing Regional chair Dr Sasikumar where he handed over the various awards won by the various clubs from Seychelles.
