Chess – Library Week Inter-School Chess Tournament

Students from six schools took part in the competition this year

Belonie secondary school the grand winner

The Belonie secondary school is the grand winner of the library week interschool chess competition, recently hosted by the St Louis district administration office, under the patronage of the Seychelles Chess Federation, in partnership with the Ministry of Education.

The tournament, held at district’s administration office, gathered six secondary schools, namely Belonie, English River, Independent, Mont Fleuri, Anse Royale and Plaisance.

Belonie garnered a total 17.5 points to finish first, ahead of English River who ws second with 14 points.

Independent School took third overall place with 8.5 points, finishing ahead of fourth-placed Mont Fleuri who concluded the competition on 7.5 points.

Anse Royale finished fifth overall with seven points, while Plaisance was sixth overall, collecting 5.5 points in total.

Chairman of the Seychelles Chess Federation (SCF) Benjamin Hoareau thanked all participants, along with all head teachers and parents for supporting the event.

Special mention goes out to Marie-Ange Moustache of Belonie School who was the key person behind the event, both in terms of logistics and administration.

Mr Hoareau further noted that the event saw an increase in the number of girls.

Meanwhile, the next chess tournament will take place on Praslin on Saturday December 3, and for registration, interested players can contact Miss Ryna on 2812258.
