Praslin secondary school sail home with both titles

The two selections from Praslin secondary are the grand winners of this year’s Open Secondary School Volleyball Championship held on Monday at La Promenade Gymnasium.

In the boys’ competition, Praslin defeated Persévérance in the final, while in the girls’ competition which was played on a mini-league format, Praslin secondary registered two victories to finish on top.

In the tournament which was jointly hosted by the National Sports Council (NSC) and the Seychelles Volleyball Federation (SVF), seven schools registered for the boys’ competition, while only three girls’ teams took part.

To reach the boys’ final, Praslin secondary defeated International School 2-0 in the first semifinal, while Persévérance eliminated Vijay Praslin International School 2-1 in the other semi-final.

The boys’ final was tightly contested from the beginning, with the score staying close – 5-5, 7-7 and 10-10 – before Praslin took a 14-10 advantage, only to see Persévérance equalise 14-14.

Praslin then took a 19-14 lead, before Persévérance fought back to level the score at 19 apiece.

More focused, Praslin scored six more points to win the first set 25-19.

In the second set, Persévérance improved their game, taking an early 6-3 lead, but Praslin pulled level at 9-9 before taking a 20-14 lead, bringing them closer to a win.

Praslin then stretched their lead to 24-16 before winning the match 25-16 to clinch the title.

In the girls’ competition, only three teams turned up and with two wins in as many matches in the mini-league, Praslin secondary were crowned the champions.

They defeated Pointe Larue 2-1 (25-22, 25-27, 15-13), and Vijay Praslin International 2-0 (25-18, 25-22).

With a 2-1 (25-22, 22-25, 20-18) over Pointe Larue secondary, Vijay Praslin International were the competition’s runners-up.
