Anse Etoile Stars win game one to lead series

Anse Etoile Stars have one foot in the final of the women’s play-offs after winning yesterday’s first match of the series against Mont Fleuri on a 67-37 score at Victoria Gymnasium to lead 1-0 in the three-match series.

Stars, who finished top of the classification league leading to the play-offs, won the first quarter 18-14, before dominating Mont Fleuri 17-2 in the second to lead 35-16 at half-time.

Stars came out more dominant in the third quarter which they won 19-7, extending their lead to 54-23 at the end of the third period.

With the win already guaranteed, coach Kenneth Domingue gave playing time to the younger and less experienced players in the fourth and final quarter, resting the elites for game two on Saturday.

Mont Fleuri seized the opportunity to score some points to narrowly beat Stars 14-13, ending the match 67-37.

Hillary Nourrice was Stars’ top scorer with 22 points, while Solange François led the scoring for Mont Fleuri with 16 points.

Meanwhile, today in the first match of the other series, HotShots will play against B Challenge.
