Marvrick Dine of Les Cannelles is the lucky winner of the Seychelles NATION newspaper’s lottery draw for the special World Cup magazine published just before the start of the competition which took place in Qatar and was won on a penalty shootout by Messi-led Argentina in a thrilling final against France whom they dethroned as champions.

The draw took place earlier this week at the papers’ headquarters situated on the Grandcourt road.

Mr Dine, an ardent supporter of the Spanish national team, won with magazine number 477 and walked away with a R6,000 cash prize. He received his prize from sales and marketing officer Janick Pool during a short ceremony yesterday.

Talking to Sports NATION, he said the magazine was a gift from his grandmother who knows he is a football fan.

“I already had a chart where I was marking the results so I kept the magazine in my car where I would catch up on sports news every now and then,” he said.

The Les Cannelles resident learnt about his win while reading the paper on Wednesday morning. “I saw the number 477 and told myself this number looked familiar and when I checked it was actually my magazine and of course I was elated,” said Mr Dine.

He said he will share the proceeds with his grandmother, who got him the lucky number.

Although his team did not win, Mr Dine said he enjoyed the World Cup, and was glad Messi’s team, Argentina won the cup as it was the only one he was yet to add to his collection.

The second cash prize of R4,000 was presented to Grand Anse Mahe resident Davis Landry, with magazine number 501. The France national team supporter was encouraged to buy a copy of the magazine by one of his sisters ‒ Farida.

“She was the one who actually gave me the money to buy it and of course I will be sharing the prize with her. Also, she actually saw in the paper that we had won and I am so excited,” said Mr Landry.

The prizes were sponsored by the James Michel Foundation.

The A3 size 48-page colour magazine was produced and printed by the National Information Services Agency (Nisa) which produces the daily Seychelles NATION newspaper.

Meanwhile, those who still want a copy of the souvenir issue can buy one at Nisa’s sales office as we have 24 left after sale on Praslin and La Digue was not so good.
