Airtel achieves first TIA-942 data centre certification in Seychelles |27 December 2022
Airtel Seychelles is the first data centre to be awarded the world-class TIA-942 data centre facility certification in Seychelles from EPI, the world’s leading accredited certification body for data centres.
Airtel has achieved the TIA-942 Rated-3 certification which validates that Airtel’s data centre infrastructure is concurrently maintainable. This means that it can undergo any planned maintenance without downtime, and therefore it is able to fully support its customers with mission-critical 24x7 operations.
TIA-942 stands out as the most complete data centre standard in the world. Mission-critical infrastructure with 24x7 availability is determined by nine critical aspects. The TIA-942 covers these nine areas which are electrical, mechanical, telecommunication infrastructure, fire detection/suppression, safety, physical security, site location, architecture, and monitoring. It also stands out as the only data centre facilities standard in the world with an official accreditation. This ensures the audit and certification process is carried out by certified professionals and follows documented processes as per the ISO requirements for certification bodies.
The TIA-942 certification was awarded by EPI which is renowned for its expertise on data centres and high-level of professionalism. EPI audits are performed by fully qualified professionals who hold the lead auditor certifications and TIA-942 professional certifications, amongst other data centre certifications and qualifications.
According to Amadou Dina, managing director of Airtel Seychelles, “This certification is a major landmark achievement for us. We had already gone down in the country’s history books as being the first to commission a TIER 3 data centre and now in only a year or so we have again re-written history by being the first and only company in Seychelles to be awarded the world-class TIA-942 data centre facility certification from EPI. This illustrates our commitment to consistently investing in our network, our infrastructure and in the capability building of our staff to provide the best experience to our customers. With this significant accomplishment, we will continue to provide secure, reliable, fast and cutting-edge technology services to both our local and international customers.”
According to Edward van Leent, chairman and CEO of EPI Group, “We congratulate the Airtel leadership for recognising the importance of benchmarking their data centre facility to a world-class standard. This certification gives both local and international customers peace of mind that the Airtel data centre is able to protect their data and provide 24x7 support for mission critical applications. By benchmarking its facility, Airtel has proven itself to be the leading data centre in Seychelles.”
