Ahmad Arissol wins season’s first race

 

  • Vélo Club de l’Ouest emerge as the best team

 

Ahmad Arissol has started the 2023 season on a high note, dominating the inaugural race hosted by the Seychelles Cycling Association on Saturday, while his team ‒ Vélo Club de l’Ouest ‒ emerged as the best team, with all cyclists finishing in the top six.

Saturday’s challenge – a 65km circuit race – gathered 20 cyclists from five clubs and they had to cover nine laps, starting from Petit Paris, through Talbot, via the Providence Highway, encircling the Providence roundabout, before continuing down to the starting point.

Arissol completed the nine laps in 1 hour 40 minutes 09 seconds (1h40:09), finishing first, ahead of teammate Stephen Belle who clocked 1h42:45.

Mario Ernesta of Northern Cycling Riders (NCR) finished third overall, also in 1h42:45, pushing Jayden Sinon of Vélo Club de l’Ouest (VCDL) into fourth place in 1h42:50.

The fifth rider to cross the finish line was Jahdel Gabriel, also of VCDL, clocking 1h43:15, ahead of teammate Sebastien Florentine who finished sixth overall in 1h45:20.

Julian Pool who rides for NCR was seventh overall in 1h45:22, finishing ahead of teammate Edrick Roucou who was eighth overall in 1h45:38.

Clocking 1h45:52, NCR’s Ricky Rosalie was ninth overall, ahead of junior rider Chris Uzice (1h47:56) who rides for the VCDL Academy.

Lauren Jacques who is also a member of the VCDL Academy was 11th overall in 1h48:00, finishing ahead of Bertrand Lesperance of Option Max Cycling (OMC) who clocked 1h48:14 to settle for 12th place.

Jude Hoareau, also of OMC was 13th overall in 1h49:47, crossing the tape ahead of Dominic Arrisol of One Shot Pain Cycling (OSPC) who clocked 1h54:46 to conclude the race in 14th overall position.

Yohan Monthy of OMC was the 15th and last rider to cross the finish line, clocking 2h04:05.

Five riders, namely Leroy Labiche, Jeff Esparon (OMC), Edward Pothin (OSPC), Trevor Malvina and Sizlah Louise (VCDL Academy), did not complete the race.

In terms of team results, VCDL emerged as the best team with a time of 5h05:52, finishing ahead of NCR who accumulated 5h13:43.
