Police force gives helping hand to former officer |25 September 2019

The officers removing unwanted items from their retired colleague’s home environment
A group of police officers were armed with paintbrushes and gloves yesterday to clean and fix the home of former policeman, Jean-Claude Bouchereau.
The initiative forms part of the police force’s ‘Taking Care of Our People’ campaign, one of the activities being organised to commemorate Police Week.
The recipient of this act, Mr Bouchereau, resides at Plaisance and had served the police force for 34 years before his retirement.
The clean-up included removal of large items that Mr Bouchereau and his wife had been unable to get rid of such as a broken washing machine and fridge, cleaning up around the house and painting the exterior of the house.
Sub Inspector (SI) Jessica Bonne, the clean-up coordinator, explained that the police force had also extended the ‘Taking Care of Our People’ campaign to other former police officers who chose which types of assistance they felt they needed.
“We are giving a homage to former police officers to show our appreciation for their service and in the case of Mr Bouchereau, he wanted us to help him clean up his place. It’s not only to clean up around the house but we also get to spend some time with the Bouchereau family,” SI Bonne noted.
Although Mr Bouchereau was not present during the morning due to a doctor’s appointment, his wife Danielle Bouchereau expressed her gratitude to the police force.
“I am happy that they took time off to do this because I don’t have the time to do much because I have to take care of my husband,” she remarked.
Police Week will officially come to a close on Friday.
