Former athletes repair Anse Royale long jump sand pit
As part of their goal promote and give a helping hand to the athletics federation in the development of the sport in Seychelles, while also promote it and its values among the youth, regardless of their gender, religion or colours, the Seychelles Former Athletes Association recently repaired the long jump sand pit at the Anse Royale field.
A long jump pit is an integral part of any athletics facilities which aims to focus on long jump and triple jump events.
It is located at the end of the runway surface and is installed to create a safe landing surface for athletes once they have completed their jump.
In ruin for quite a while, the facility went through cleaning and levelling process, and will now be filled with sand, before being operational.
Speaking to Sports NATION, secretary of the Seychelles Former Athletes Association (SFAA), Rency Balgobin, explained that they decided to carry out renovation work on the facility after being approached by the Arsu athletics club who uses the facility for training.
The main work carried out included cutting of grass, re-digging of the pit, along with levelling.
Mrs Balgobin explained that the work forms part of their goal to give back to the community and country, contributing towards helping to promote athletics, especially among the youth, thus, producing the next generation of athletes.
The SFAA was created to allow all former athletes to stay in touch, but most importantly active, especially after their days of competing are done, through activities for health benefits.
It is also to maintain the value of friendships, the importance of keeping in touch, as well as the opportunity to reconnect with former teammates and friends.
The SFAA is chaired by Joseph Volcy, with Mrs Balgobin as its secretary, while Paul Lesperance is its treasurer.
The ordinary members are Danny Benoit, Vincent Confait, Beryl Larame, Linda Jeanne, Giovanni Fanny and Danny Charles.
