Following the announcements that first division football matches will be back at Stad Popiler due to the ongoing renovation work at Stad Linite, the legendary stadium has recently got a facelift, in the form of a new coat of paint, while the boxing training ground at the Victoria Gymnasium is now ready for training, following renovation work on the base of the ring.
Despite not being a major transformation, Stad Popiler is now more welcoming, while the grandstand can now accommodate more people, following the removal of the damaged plastic seats, bringing back its original sitting arrangements.
Other than the coat of paint, some minor work has also been done in terms of toilet facilities.
As for the boxing gym, a new canvas has been placed, replacing the damaged one which prevented proper training sessions for our pugilists, especially with their preparations for the forthcoming Indian Ocean Islands Games (IOIG).
Canvas is a general term used to reference the floor of the boxing ring.
The costs for both renovation works have been absorbed by the National Sports Council (NSC).
