Season gains momentum… Here we go!

It has been unusually quiet this month for the Seychelles Karting Association after round one races ended on April 8, but that will soon change, and here are a few things pencilled into a somewhat fluid diary.

April proved to be tranquil with only round one of the National Championship and the opening of the SKA academy on the agenda, but with the dawn of the second part of the season imminent, here are a few things you should know.

Sunday April 30 ‒ Masters and Intermediates A round 2

Round one of the Masters class ended in drama last time with Liza Rene-Cosgrow who started strongly but struggled with mechanical issues to her kart and as a result finished fourth behind Dave Rene, Marc Delcy and newcomer Fabio William.

She will be looking to re-establish her dominance this weekend, whereas in the Intermediate ‘A’, which is breathing a sigh of relief with the departure of Fabio William, the reigning champion, the drivers will be seeking to establish themselves as the new force in this class.

Will round one winner Denilson Melanie be able to extend his lead with Christian Bastienne looking to challenge for the top points?  Who will be bold enough to win round two?

Saturday May 6 ‒ Cadets and Juniors Round 3

Round two of the Juniors proved to be exhilarating as our 12–15-year-olds battle it out.

This group is proving to be exciting with all the boys eager to make their mark for the first time in karting. Lecxus Liu Chit Chon was the outright favourite from rounds one and two but with Adam Ally now in the mix will he be able to challenge Lecxus for his first Junior win.

In the Cadet class, our youngest racing group with drivers as young as 10 years old, Joshua Cosgrow held on for his second win of the year, closely challenged by Noah Moulinie.

Our youngsters are proving to be a real treat on the track as they continue to grow in race craft and abilities. It’s all going to be really close, one mistake will prove costly in round three for both our youngster classes.

Saturday May 13 – Intermediate C Round two and Academy Training 2

Inter C has had it pretty cool so far with the Lionnet brothers ‒ Delroy and Enzo. Delroy led Enzo the last time out and Jhohan Cadeau was close behind. Can Delroy keep up the pace on his brother? The challenge is real and should not be missed.

Finally, the newcomers to our sport will be attending their second training session. This year the SKA on-boarded 10 new youngsters and four ladies.

Their training session continues to build on their driving ability before they all head into more technical training and ultimately race craft.

Our youngest driver in the academy is nine years old and the oldest is 13. The ladies are on a crash course with the aim of getting them ready for racing by the time of the next big event ‒ the Mid-Season Grand Prix in July.

Saturday May 20 – Specialised First Aid training course

SKA regularly hosts for its members and community, first aid training courses to ensure that medical expertise is available at the track at any event as we all know motorsport can be dangerous. Since 2022, the SKA has partnered with Care Aid Solutions, a local organisation providing first aid training, to derive a specialised course catered to the needs of karting as a motorsport, and they shall be running a session again this year, with a new cohort of first aiders.

Sunday May 28 - Masters and Intermediates A – Round three

And yes, it won’t end there, ending April the seniors are also expected to end May with a blast. Who will be on top and extend their advantage as we head into the mid-season?

All SKA Saturday events run from 2pm whereas the Sunday events run from 9am and we would like to invite all our young and old motorsport enthusiasts to come down and support our local talents, young and old, as they battle it out at the Champions Park Raceway, Roche Caïman. Don’t miss it.
