Transport Minister Antony Derjacques’ message on International Day for Women in Maritime ‒ May 18, 2023 |18 May 2023

Minister Derjacques
‘Maritime industry offers endless opportunities for women to develop their qualities and succeed in their careers’
“My fellow citizens of Seychelles,
“On this International Day for Women in Maritime, we celebrate the inspiring achievements of all the women who have contributed to the growth and development of the maritime industry. We honour their hard work, dedication, and unwavering commitment to excellence.
“As we celebrate these women, three qualities come to mind: confidence, composure, and ambition qualities that define the women who have overcome challenges to rise to the top of their maritime professions.
“The maritime industry offers endless opportunities for women to develop these qualities and succeed in their careers. It is an industry that is constantly evolving, adapting to new technologies, and facing new challenges. Women in maritime must have the courage to embrace change, take on new challenges, and continue to learn and grow.
“This year’s theme for the International Maritime Organisation is ‘Mobilising networks for gender equality’. A fitting theme: if there is an essential quality that women possess, it is the art of working together to achieve common goals. They collaborate with colleagues from diverse cultures and backgrounds, building strong relationships, and sharing resources and ideas. Through their networks, they create positive change for women in the industry.
“As the Minister for Transport in Seychelles, I am committed to promoting gender equality and empowering women in maritime. We will foster an environment that encourages the development of these vital qualities among women in the industry. Through training, mentorship, and other initiatives, we will support the growth and success of women in maritime, and continue to mobilize networks to promote gender equality.
“On this International Day for Women in Maritime, let us celebrate the remarkable achievements of women in our industry, as they continue to chart new courses and make history.
“Together, we pledge to create a brighter, more equitable future for all.
“Thank you.”
Antony Derjacques
