With the unlimited fixed broadband packages that have also seen an increase, such as the 2099 package now being 30 mbps instead of 25 and having a daily cap of 30gb increased to 35gb, YouTube and Netflix will not be using the daily 35gb.

This was announced by lead presenter manager consumer market at Cable & Wireless, Daniel Socrate, during a press conference yesterday afternoon.

This applies to all the other unlimited fixed broadband packages as well. “If your family is watching Netflix or YouTube, your 35gb will not be used and you can even download from those sites directly and it will still not touch your daily fair usage policy (FUP),” added Mr Socrate.

In addition, the FUP will not be touched regardless of whether you are using the YouTube app or watching YouTube through a browser extension.

Mr Socrate noted that less than 10 percent of their customers have used the daily FUP. “At CWS we always have packages that we maintain technologically and commercially.”

Approximately 75 percent of the network traffic is Netflix and YouTube. “For Netflix and YouTube to enter in a partnership with us, it shows how much confidence they have in us,” explained Mr Socrate.

The revised unlimited packages have already been implemented since May 26, 2023. The wireless broadband packages that have also been released since last week include the cheapest package that stands at R899 with a daily FUP of 15gb, the middle package that stands at R1290 with a daily FUP of 20gb and the most expensive stands at R1590 with a 25gb FUP. There are two versions with the same price for both; the prepaid version where it can be bought as an eTopUp with your designated amount or paying a bill at the end of the month.

All advertised prices now include value added tax, in order to make it easier for customers.

There are also new capped packages for the fixed broadband that will be released on June 1. The improvements include the 8gb package, which has now reached 15gb and the price has been adjusted to be lower. The most popular package, the LITE Pro has increased from 25gn to 60gb and the Plus Pro, another popular package has increased to become 100GB.

In addition to all of this, CWS has an extensive range of data boosters to choose from for those who have used up their daily FUP. The two most targeted boosters that are offered are the Giga Unlimited 24 with a validity of 24 hours or a day, and the Giga Unlimited 72 that has a validity of 72 hours or 3 days, which have been curated for those who have more extensive download needs than the average consumer.

“These boosters have been enhanced, giving consumers faster speeds than ever before, elevating their overall online experience,” explained Mr Socrate.

To conclude, CWS also announced that instead of waiting for fixed broadband, customers who have applied will now receive a temporary wireless broadband router in order to keep them compensated until the fixed broadband is installed. Once the fixed broadband is installed, the customer can choose whether or not they would like to keep the router or return it.

The director of Marketing, Jean Hassan, concluded the presentation by explaining that the introduction of new packages and the improvement of the former ones are “to the particular needs of customers as the internet has now become an essential service. This is why we always make it easy for existing and new customers to get the data allowance they want across our different packages,” she stated.
