A two-member delegation from Seychelles was recently in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania for the Africa Human Capital Summit 2023.

The summit is aimed at accelerating Africa's economic growth and boost youth productivity and jobs by addressing learning poverty and skill gaps.

Seychelles’ delegation comprised the Minister for Youth, Sports, and Family, Marie Celine Zialor, and the principal secretary for Education Services of the Ministry of Education, Merna Eulentin.

The focus was on ministerial-level dialogue and commitment to human capital, showcasing economic returns of investing in people and identifying effective strategies for the region's economic trajectory.

The summit covered various topics, including skills and jobs for Africa's potential, foundational learning, empowerment of women and girls, and the importance of nutrition for human capital.

It also highlighted the need for skilling and reskilling due to the changing work nature and emphasised the role of the private sector in addressing skilling gaps.

Participants shared experiences and discussed productive partnerships between the private sector, entrepreneurs, and the government.

The event included an exhibition showcasing Africa's arts and craft, knowledge reports on human capital, country experience videos, and digital tech displays advancing education outcomes.

In addition to heads of state and ministers, well-known experts, philanthropists, and government officials also attended the summit, which was supported by the World Bank.
