 ‘Youth involvement key to ensuring progress of democracy in Seychelles’

“The theme for the 2023 International Democracy Day, which is celebrated on September 15, is ‘Empowering the Next Generation’.

“In that respect the chairman of the Electoral Commission, Danny Lucas, wishes to emphasise the importance of youth involvement in the advancement of democracy.

“The participation of youth in politics and therefore elections, is a crucial step towards the promotion of civic engagement, with the aimed focus on aspiring and promoting leadership qualities.

“The Commission wishes to reiterate its engagement in its endeavour to have a high participation of youth in elections and electoral activities throughout the electoral cycle.

“Empowering the next generation of Seychellois is the only way to guarantee the quality of democratic governance and therefore sustainable practices for the Seychelles.

“We therefore call upon the youth to come forward and take the challenge to participate  while enjoying their constitutional rights and responsibilities as young voters and leaders.”
