10th Pan African Conference

Seychelles Red Cross vice-president delivers joint Declaration

On the final day of the 10th Pan African Conference, the Red Cross Society of Seychelles’ vice-president, Audrey Adam, delivered a joint Declaration on behalf of the Indian Ocean Red Cross/Red Crescent Societies; namely Mauritius, Comoros, Madagascar and Seychelles.

The Declaration pledges the societies’ commitment to be fully engaged in national society development, and work alongside partners to provide support to affected population, build resilience to disasters through improved disaster risk governance and anticipatory actions.

Mrs Adam also encouraged African National Societies with the support of the IFRC to lead in climate action and promote green accountability, related to losses and damages as a result of climate change.

“The declaration is a call to reinforce our efforts to attract a greater youth force, combat fraud and corruption, sexual harrassment among others.”

Representatives from the Youth Red Cross who took part in the 10th Pan African Conference in Nairobi, Kenya planted over 100 trees in the vicinity of the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

The Red Cross Society of Seychelles’ youth representative, Julinio Nourrice, was part of this event.

This is part of the International Federation of Red Cross/Red Crescent’s (IFRC) Pan African Tree Planting Agenda. This initiative aims to plant 10 million trees around the world. This aims to contribute to the protection, management and restoration of forests while at the same time addressing the drivers of food insecurity induced by climate change.

The accompanying photos show some highlights of the conference and the tree planting exercise.
