SAREP commemorates Teachers' Day   |06 October 2023

SAREP commemorates Teachers' Day

To commemorate Teachers’ Day yesterday, the Seychelles Association of Retired Education Professionals (SAREP) remembered our former educators.

Several retired teachers, who are members of SAREP, were invited to a luncheon at the Lighthouse Restaurant at Harbour Café, situated in the Espace building.

The gathering, aimed at honouring former educators, demonstrated the enduring bonds among them, even after retirement.

Before meeting for the luncheon, the executive members of SAREP visited three retired teachers facing health challenges. It was a touching display of solidarity and care.

Merida Delcy, SAREP’s spokesperson, said this event is an annual tradition. She expressed their joy in bringing together around 60 retired teachers, some of whom had not seen each other in over 15 years.

“To brighten their day, flowers were presented as tokens of appreciation. This year, SAREP placed a special emphasis on ‘Sesel lir avek mwan’ project, dedicated to raising awareness among parents about the importance of reading with their children for at least ten minutes a day. We aim to nurture children's intellectual faculties through this initiative. Furthermore, SAREP is thriving and extends an invitation to more retired teachers to join our association,” she stated.

The afternoon was filled with activities, including a sumptuous lunch and a variety of recreational activities such as karaoke and a raffle.

SAREP, founded in January 2022 and officially recognised in April, has set ambitious goals. The association's primary mission is to promote community service in education-related matters, offering guidance and support across various areas. Additionally, they seek to conduct research on educational issues, generating educational literature, articles, and documents founded on empirical evidence to benefit the education sector.
