Winners of peace poster and essay competition rewarded

Winners of the peace essay and poster competition of the Lions Club International received their prizes in a ceremony organised yesterday.

This was in the presence of the Lions Club International District Governor 411A for Kenya, Ethiopia and Seychelles, Dr Samson Ndegwa who also served as district governor from 2002-2003, and as council chairperson in 2003-2004.

The ceremony was held at the National Theatre, Mont Fleuri and was graced by the presence of several members of the various lion clubs in Seychelles as well as officials from the education ministry.

‘Dare to dream’ was this year’s theme for the competition and it was held in close partnership with the Ministry of Education.

The ceremony started with a short reflection on what peace is.

The students whose posters had wow the judges were the first ones to be rewarded.

A primary six pupil from Bel Ombre school, Nyra Robinson, clinched the first prize, while her colleagues, Rowaldo Pierre and Lyah De La Fontaine, settled in second and third place respectively.

Nyra said she was happy to have won such prize adding that she was very excited to take part in the competition when she was told about it.

For the essay competition, the winning essay was written by another primary six pupil from Bel Ombre school, Neo Charlot. Khellehb Rath, a primary six pupil from Baie Ste Anne Praslin, came in second, while the third prize went to Estelle Anacoura, a secondary one student from Anse Boileau.

The winning posters and essays were presented to the district governor. She said these posters will further be judged by the district along with others from Kenya and Ethiopia.

Further judging with the ones from Uganda and Tanzania along with those from the district will be done. Whoever wins will be recognised and rewarded by the Lions Club International.
