Environment authority reassures locals
The Biodiversity Concentration and Management Division has reassured the public that there is no credible evidence of a snake in La Misère and no imminent threat to public safety.
It released the statement yesterday after a video purportedly showing a snake in La Misère went viral.
“After thorough investigation we can confirm that the video is not authentic and has been uploaded from an undisclosed source,” read the statement.
“We understand that such misinformation can lead to unnecessary panic and fear within the community. Therefore, we would like to reassure the public that there is no credible evidence of a snake in La Misère, and there is no imminent threat to public safety,” added the press release.
The division also emphasised the importance of verifying information before sharing it, especially on social media platforms.
“Spreading false information can have serious consequences, including causing unwarranted alarm and diverting resources from genuine conversation efforts,” it concluded.
