National Grants boosts community projects with over R2 million in new funding round

The National Grants Committee has awarded a further R2,114,695.00 towards six projects under the 2024 National Grants Cycle, adding up to 14 successful applicants.

The total appropriated budget for 2024 was R9,050,000.00.

Last month, eight projects benefitted from the scheme for a total sum of R3,328,625.00

The six new projects bring the grand total of both batches to R5,443,320.00.

They include the Green Generation Seychelles, which is receiving a sum of R267,925.00. The fund will be used to raise awareness on environmental issues and influence Baie Lazare residents in a positive way to contribute to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment by adopting the 3R concept of waste management.

The Silhouette Foundation has been granted R441,950.00 to build the capacity of conservation rangers and foster stewardship through the establishment of a Wildlife Conservation Academy and a public wildlife discovery centre on Silhouette Island.

The HOPE Foundation will be improving the quality of palliative care in the northern region through community awareness, capacity building of care givers and provision of psycho-social care with the allocated sum of R368,040.00.

Universal Peace Federation Seychelles has been granted R212,950.00 in order to instil and strengthen moral values and build resilience of students from Anse Royale, Anse Boileau and Pointe Larue secondary schools through Character Education programme.

Another organisation to receive a grant is the Seychelles Association of Women Promoting Education, Empowerment & Enlightenment (SAWOPE), which will be enhancing the capacity of key stakeholders to address women issues and advocate for gender responsive policies, services and programmes through awareness and capacity building. They will be doing this with a sum of R321,690.00.

Seychelles Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA) vows to control the stray dog population through education, sterilisation campaign as well as continuing with providing a safe shelter for unwanted animals and they will be doing so with an allocated sum of R502,140.00.

A second call for proposal will be launched on March 11, 2024.

Since its inception in 2019, a total of 105 projects worth R33,319,859.86 have been funded under the National Grants Scheme.
