Seychelles undertakes groundbreaking cultural reform project

The Seychelles National Institute for Culture, Heritage and the Arts in collaboration with the International Fund for Cultural Diversity of Unesco officially launched a groundbreaking cultural development project yesterday morning during a ceremony held at the International Conference Centre.

Titled ‘Reinvigorating and Re-establishing Culture at the Heart of Seychelles’ Economic and Social Development’, the initiative aims to embed culture as a foundational pillar of national progress. Funded by the International Fund for Cultural Diversity (IFCD) at a cost of US $79,583, the project will run from March 1, 2025, to June 1, 2026.

Additionally the project will focus on identifying key cultural reforms to strengthen the role of culture in society, enhancing the visibility and appeal of Seychelles' national cultural content and developing inclusive strategies to ensure equitable access to cultural expression across all communities.

To kickstart the project, a three-day stakeholder engagement workshop began yesterday morning. It brings together local cultural stakeholders, government officials, civil society actors, and international experts, to collaborate on strategic cultural planning.
