Health ministry urges precautionary measures
The Ministry of Health is advising members of the public to protect themselves against mosquito bites and to report to their health centres or medical practitioners if they have any symptoms of the dengue fever. This is after a rise in the number of reported cases of dengue fever on Praslin, reported by the National Surveillance System.
Since the start of the year, the Seychelles Hospital laboratory has carried out 1600 tests on Mahé, out of which 16 tested positive. A total of 206 individuals were tested for dengue on Praslin and 36 were positive, representing around 17 percent of people who took the test. Among those who were infected in the past four to five weeks, six were admitted to hospital to receive care, and no lives were lost.
These details were provided by Dr Meggy Louange during a press conference held yesterday at the Ministry of Health's headquarters.
