Contributes over R400,000 to honour team Seychelles
In an extraordinary display of patriotism, partnership and pride, Cable & Wireless Seychelles (CWS), in collaboration with the Seychelles Public Transport Corporation (SPTC), Nouvobanq, and Seychelles Breweries, rolled out a vibrant mobile roadshow on Saturday afternoon to honour the Seychelles National Beach Soccer Team following their heroic performance in the first-ever FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup 2025™ hosted on African soil – right here in our beloved Seychelles.
The unique celebration took the form of two specially branded SPTC buses, transformed into vibrant moving tributes to Team Seychelles, as they journeyed across the islands with the CWS team on board. The roadshow ignited national spirit across key community stops from Victoria to Anse Royale, drawing residents together to applaud the resilience, talent, and heart of the national team.
As a long-standing supporter of local talent and sporting excellence, Cable & Wireless had pledged R5,000 for every goal scored by Team Seychelles during the tournament. With eight goals recorded, the company presented R40,000 donation in honour of their efforts. But the spirit of giving didn’t stop there. CWS rallied its customers through a digital donation drive, raising an impressive R25,733. True to its word, the company matched this amount, bringing the final cheque value to R51,466. Together, CWS and its customers contributed a remarkable R91,466 to support Team Seychelles in their journey forward.
This most recent contribution builds upon Cable & Wireless’ prior commitment, which saw each member of the national team equipped with smartphones and data, an in-kind donation valued at R277,200, ensuring continuous connectivity and support throughout their participation in the tournament.
The donation was officially presented by the CEO of Cable & Wireless, Naadir Hassan, alongside members of the technical team who had ensured seamless connectivity throughout the tournament – a further symbol of the company’s hands-on commitment to national success. “This roadshow was more than a celebration – it was a moving tribute to the power of unity, community, and the Seychellois spirit,” said Mr Hassan.
“We are immensely proud of our national team and grateful for the opportunity to give back to the boys who represented us with heart and honour on the world stage.” Cable & Wireless extends its heartfelt appreciation to SPTC for its support in making this vision a reality and to every Seychellois who joined along the route to cheer, dance and donate. The event underscored the extraordinary things that can happen when businesses, institutions and citizens come together for a common cause. Together, we celebrated not only the goals scored on the pitch, but the unity, resilience and pride that define our nation.
