Minister Joubert’s Environment Day message

‘Let us commit ourselves to ending plastic pollution’

“Today, Seychelles joins the global community in celebrating World Environment Day, with this year’s theme focusing on one of the most pressing environmental challenges of our time: ‘Ending plastic pollution’.

“This year’s observance comes at a pivotal moment. In just two months, negotiators from around the world including Seychelles will meet once again to continue discussions on the development of the Global Plastic Treaty. The Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee session 5.2 will be held with the main objective of finalising the treaty’s priorities, objectives, and core principles. In line with the mandate set during UNEA 5.2, we remain committed and ambitious that this new instrument will address the entire life cycle of plastics from production to disposal focusing on prevention, reduction, and elimination of plastic pollution.

Flavien Joubert

Minister for Agriculture, Climate Change & Environment
