Sickle cell anaemia

Sickle cell disease is the name given to a group of inherited blood disorder that affect the red blood cells, with the most serious type being sickle cell anaemia. If you have ever come across a sickle (a farm tool) then you will understand why this group of disease is given this name. It also provides an opportunity to highlight the challenges experienced by patients and their families.
