Thirteen Black Parrot chicks fledged in 2024/2025 breeding season

 

As of April 2025, the Black Parrot Research Team is celebrating a successful breeding season, with 13 black parrot chicks fledging across monitored sites. Since December 2024, the team has been diligently monitoring 15 active nests across key habitats, including Vallée de Mai, Fond Peper, Glacis Noir, Praslin National Park, and Fond Ferdinand.

Of the 15 nests observed, 10 were successful, resulting in the fledging of 13 chicks. Unfortunately, the remaining five nests were lost to predation by invasive species, mainly rats and feral cats – underscoring the persistent threats faced by the Seychelles black parrot.
