Kiki’s free kick seals victory for Seychelles against Mauritius in inaugural match
A free kick by captain Keisha ‘Kiki’ Moustache in the 29th minute was enough to secure Seychelles a 1-0 win over Mauritius yesterday in their inaugural match on the first day of competition counting for the 13th Commission de la Jeunesse et des Sports de l’Océan Indien Games.
For the 13th Games, only three teams – Seychelles, Mauritius, and Mayotte – are taking part in the competition which will be contested on a league basis.
In a well-balanced match where both teams created significant chances, Seychelles took their chances early in the first match when Mauritian goalkeeper Marie Cedrielle Begue failed to grab Moustache’s free kick which ended at the back of the net to give Seychelles the lead.
Despite the efforts from both sides, the first half ended 1-0, with Seychelles having the upper hand.
As the second period of the match began, both teams threw everything into the match, with Seychelles trying to extend their lead, while Mauritius huffed and puffed to equalise.
