Seychelles glide past Djibouti in game one
Against all the odds, the Seychelles girls’ basketball team yesterday registered a 49-31 win over Djibouti in their first match at the ongoing 13th Commission de la Jeunesse et des Sports de l’Océan Indien Games at Victoria Gymnasium.
For the 13th Games, the girls’ basketball competition will be played on a league format, featuring Seychelles, Djibouti, the Comoros, Mauritius, and Mayotte.
With American Natosha Cummings-Price as head coach, Seychelles were matched by the Djiboutian squad, but narrowly got away with slight 11-10 lead after the first quarter of the match.
The second quarter was almost a replica of the first, with both teams missing easy chances, and committing silly mistakes, ending the period on a low 6-5 score in favour of the host country, who took a 17-15 lead at half-time.
