Compiled by Sunny Esparon
World Breastfeeding Week, observed globally from August 1 to 7, draws to a close today, marking the end of a week-long campaign dedicated to promoting, supporting, and protecting breastfeeding as a vital foundation for health and wellbeing.
First initiated in 1992 by the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA), the week is now recognised and celebrated in over 170 countries. It is backed by major international bodies including the World Health Organisation (WHO) and UNICEF, which jointly endorse breastfeeding as a key component of sustainable development and maternal-child health.
