As part of his duty as the IKA Technical Director and Continental Chairman for Africa, Shihan Phillip Moustache, 7th dan black belt, last weekend conducted the 2nd Mauritius Karate Gasshku (Training Camp) for the Mauritian students at the Anse La Raie sports facility.

A total of 120 karatekas from the 18 Kyokushin Ryu Dojos spread across the island participated in the three-day training camp which the organisers have described as a great success.

During one of the early morning sessions, the students performed numerous hand techniques and performed over 7,000 techniques, non-stop, thus breaking the record set during the 1st Gasshku two years ago.

The students were taught numerous new techniques and brought up to date with latest developments. A session was also dedicated to training with the Bo (Long Staff) and which included basics, Bo Kata and Bo Kumite.

The event was also attended by the Minister for Education and the Parliamentary Member for the Number 6 Constituency.

During a short speech, the Minister commended Shihan Moustache for his unwavering support to train the Mauritian students during the past 33 years and with the hope that he continues to do so in the future. A large number of parents also attended the event during which all students were presented with a Certificate of Participation and a Medal by the Minister.

During the Training Camp, Shihan Moustache presented 14 senior members with their black belts and certificates ranging in grades from 1st to 4th dan.

After the camp, Shihan Moustache conducted additional training sessions at the main Goodlands Dojo, Bois Pignolet Dojo and the Fond Du Sac Dojo.

A national grading session was held for yellow to brown belt candidates at the Bois Pignolet Dojo.

The final training session was a black and brown Belt training class for all the senior members.

The next big events on the IKA calendar this year are the Elite Men’s World Tournament in Dubai and the Lion City Tournament in Singapore.
